Skokie Lagoons

The Northstars took to the Skokie Lagoons for a morning filled with donuts, laughter, and rowing….so much rowing.

The idea behind this outing was to practice for the cardboard ragatta. While we had a very respectable time we knew we could do better. The boat design was solid, we just needed more power and more practice.

We launched our fleet into the lagoons and started to paddle around, getting our bearings as well as stretching our muscles.

Tribe Chief Kiel Loyson took the lead and we went off down one fork of the lagoons.

It was not the right fork.

So we turned around and went BACK the way we came. Once we were pointed in the right direction we took a loop around an island in the middle of the lagoons. On the back side of the island the water was entirely filled with duck weed. It made for slow going, but our girls powered through.

After a few hours in the muck, and a short race back to the launching area, we all went for lunch at a local restaurant before heading home.
